Any able ace
Can create space
Between a rock
And a hard place
But it takes a wizard
To free a lizard
Randall Kent
Lennie the Lizard has begun to be recognized. He is a shy creature, but theologically adept as his prayer illustrates:
Divine mother,
The one beyond all-knowing and my lizard understanding
Grant me freedom, that I may lie in the Spring sun
Safe from roving crows and hungry cuckas
Give me a bolt hole, with a wide entrance
So not to get stuck between concrete and rock.
And keep me safe from lawnmowers
And all those noisy things
That would threaten my life.
Grant me a feast of snails
And other delights.
And when the clouds come, with rain to follow
Grant me a warm place,
Secure in the knowledge
That my world is safe and free from harm.
For I am the least of your creatures,
And could easily be forgotten
When I look up at the stars
My lizard brain cannot contain
The wonders of your work
And the enormity of your love.
