Prayer of Anthropocene

God of Love,

Teach us how to pray in a time of envisioned doom. Climate change is already happening, and, together with mass extinctions of species, we are said to have entered the epoch of Anthropocene. Now, we have egotistical maniacs threatening our world with nuclear war.

You have made us human, so we can think, review the past, and imagine the future. Thank you for our creativity and insight. But we need help with our worries and fear! Please remind us of Jesus’ teachings: not to worry for it won’t prolong our lives; not to worry about the future for each day has enough troubles of its own; not to worry about what to say for our words will come from the Spirit.

Thank you for the many opportunities for us to join local and global movements for Peace – environmental and social Peace. At times, it can be overwhelming and we don’t know how or where to direct our energies. Help us to know what to do and what to say. Again, please help us to remember, our words will come from the Spirit.

God of Love, thank you for teaching us to be still and know that You are God. Help us to place ourselves firmly in the present. To feel our own beating hearts, and breath in our lungs. Guide us to look up at the clouds and stars, open our ears to birds, enjoy time with others, music, fresh food and many other blessings that signify your presence in our individual and collective lives.

Thank you for teaching us that perfect Love casts out fear.

God, we choose to surrender our anxieties, fears and worries to You. And we welcome your loving, healing presence within us and around us.
